The studio at the centre of it
Think Tank SA was founded by AutoHive to solve a plain problem. Professional studio time in Cape Town is expensive, hard to book, and usually comes with a setup tax before a single word is recorded. We built a different room in Sir Lowry's Pass, Somerset West, where the cameras are already rolling and the sound is already treated.
The name says exactly what it does: Real Solutions for Real-World Business Problems. A founder needs a podcast that sounds professional. A corporate team needs training content recorded in a day, not a quarter. We hand over a walk-in, walk-out studio that is powered, patched and ready to record before you arrive, and you bring the conversation.
A room built to listen
The studio is not just quiet, it is acoustically treated to record clean. Broadband absorption panels control the reflections coming off the walls, and corner bass traps tame the low-end build-up that makes voices sound boxy. The result is a controlled, low-reverberation room with a low noise floor, so interviews, narration and music land crisp at the source and need far less rescue in post. A separate treated edit suite carries the work the rest of the way.
The power never blinks
Every South African creator knows the same gut-drop. The shoot is flowing, the guest is open, the take is perfect, and then the power dies. The lights cut, the gear shuts down, the moment is gone, and so is the money.
That does not happen here.
A 5 kVA SunSynk inverter, a 5 kVA battery bank and six 500W solar panels keep the studio running through load-shedding inside the guaranteed hours of 09:00 to 18:00. The lights hold, the cameras roll, the upload keeps climbing. A 100-200 Mbps uncapped fibre line carries your live stream and your footage without a stutter. We keep enough storage cards on hand that nobody stops to dump a drive, and a charged spare battery for every device waits at the charging stations. After dark the bank runs on stored power alone, so we tell you that plainly rather than promise a night we cannot guarantee.

Somerset West, on purpose
We are based in Sir Lowry's Pass, Somerset West, by design. You skip the city-centre overheads and the crew travel time, and you record minutes from the wine estates, with an overnight kitchen on-site and a quiet car park while you work. Think Tank SA is a proudly AutoHive company, committed to local creators and to skills development in the Helderberg.
Sleep where you shoot
Most studios rent you hours. We rent you the day and the night.
We are the only studio where you book the overnight room together with the booth. Once you are in, the space is yours around the clock: record, edit and live-stream across a full 24 hours, then sleep on site and pick it up again in the morning. No clock-watching, no second commute, no losing a take because the booking ran out.
Need more than a day? Choose a week-long package with luxury accommodation on site for a crew of one to eight. The whole team stays where the work happens, from the host and guests to the editors and camera operators. A self-catering room sits upstairs, and accommodation can be booked through Airbnb, LekkeSlaap, Booking.com, or directly from our website.

The hive principle
One creator cannot carry a studio, a broadcast kit, expensive software licences, backup power and every discipline a job needs. A hive can. So we built one, and we filled it with our own.
